Apple TV version 7.00 firmware update

In case you missed it, Apple updated the firmware for Apple TV in September. Featuring a new look and features, if you've missed it then grab it now for an iOS-like flatter design to the interface and some useful new services.

There was no update at Apple's recent iPad launch to the Apple TV, suggesting the company is keeping its powder dry for its HDTV product, or because the company simply doesn't want to compete with the likes of Fire TV, yet. You can still enjoy AirPlay gaming on Apple TV with your iPad or iPhone.

As you can see in the pics below, the shading and reflections have gone from the icons, in the new version (bottom).

New features include:

  • Refreshed user experience: A fresh new look for Apple TV.
  • Family Sharing: Play your family’s purchases.
  • Ask to Buy: Make sure children get permission before buying items from iTunes.
  • Descriptive Video Services: Hear descriptive video with a new accessibility feature coming to select iTunes movies and TV shows later this year.
  • Peer-to-peer AirPlay: Guests can AirPlay from their Mac or iOS device directly to your Apple TV (model A1469 or later) without connecting to your wireless network.
  • Beats Music: Listen to music that's always right for you. (US)
  • Sky Now: Access to Sky's instant view day-pass service (EU)
